Drug

From the time they start school, children are reminded to “just say no” to drugs and alcohol. But just how effective are drug prevention programs? According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, research-based programs help in significantly reducing early use of tobacco, alcohol and illicit drugs. When young people perceive drug use as harmful, they reduce their level of use.

Tech

Just because a new version of the iPhone is coming out doesn’t mean your child has to be the first one to get it. Keeping up the with tech Joneses may be putting undue stress on your kids. Explain to them that their current device does exactly what it needs to do, but if they’re determined to have the latest and greatest, they’ll need to earn and save the money for it.

Safety

As kids get older, evening events and parties soon become the norm. For your teen, impose a curfew and also consider a home security system, not only for preventing break ins, but to keep your kids from sneaking out of the house late at night. Having a home security system could give them a way out of getting involved with the wrong crowd.

Bully

Oftentimes, bullies have low self-esteem about things they don’t have. So, in turn, they target kids who have more than them. It’s important for kids not to boast about money, gifts and material things they have because this could not only expose them to bullying, but also to theft. Limit what your child brings or wears to school, including large sums of cash.
