Elementary school-aged children can benefit from a variety of chores that help develop responsibility, organization, and essential life skills.
Here are some age-appropriate chores for elementary years:
- Making the Bed: Teach them to straighten out their sheets and fluff their pillows each morning.
- Setting/Clearing the Table: Children can help set the table before meals and clear their dishes afterward.
- Laundry Assistance: Show them how to sort laundry, fold clothes, and put them away. Simple tasks like matching socks can be engaging.
- Toy Cleanup: Encourage them to tidy up their toys and play areas after each use. This instills a sense of organization.
- Dishwashing: With supervision, they can help wash dishes, dry them, or load/unload the dishwasher.
- Taking Care of Pets: If you have pets, involve them in feeding, grooming, or cleaning up after them.
- Trash Duty: Teach them about recycling and have them take out the trash or recycling.
