Weighing in on Stats

Nationwide, 72.5% of students have had at least 1 drink of alcohol in their lives.

  • Each year, about 5,000 people under age 21 die from motor vehicle crashes. Including other unintentional injuries, homicides and suicides that involve underage drinking.
  • 3 to 6 months. The amount of time an adult’s driver’s license can be suspended if convicted of providing alcohol to minors in Colorado, New Hampshire and Florida.
  •  Approximately 30% of automobile fatalities are alcohol related.
  •  28% of teens say they have been to a party where parents were present and teens were drinking.
  •  $7,000 to $20,000 is the average expense associated with being arrested for a routine DUI.
  •  3 out of 4 drivers convicted of a DUI are frequent heavy drinkers or alcoholics.
  •  DUI arrests of persons under the age of 21 proportionally increased by 12.6%. Between 1998 and 2008.
  •  .16 is the average blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of a convicted DUI offender. This is twice the legal limit.
  •  Approximately 5,000 young people under the age of 21 die annually as a result of underage drinking.
  •  3 out of 4 high school seniors have consumed alcohol.
  •  6 months: Potential time spent in jail for providing alcohol to minors. Or hosting a party where alcohol is being consumed by minors in California.
