I remember saying 15 years ago that the silent killer for our youth will be something that we will freely allow in our homes and in the hands of our children. How I wish I was wrong about technology…

While technology can be a great thing, the many downfalls if left unchecked can be a detrimental.

Today children can be exposed to so much with a press of a button and while we can’t keep them from it realistically, we have to walk them through all the risk twist and turns that it may bring.

Early education is key, as parents we have the perfect opportunity to guide them through and teach them how to be safe online. And it is just not one conversation. We just can’t hand our children devices that connect them to the strangers that we use to shield them from the park. As a society the rules have always been no matter what background or beliefs you come from is that we teach our children to not talk to strangers.

Somehow with the use of technology those lines have been blurred.

There are as many as 500,000 predators online who pose threats to our children daily.

Children aged 12 to 15 are the most targeted by online predators, and only 15% of parents are aware of what their children are doing online. These are alarming statistics, and they are reaching our children through devices inside and outside of our homes. While you might think your child is safe online and that they wouldn’t be compromising their safety, don’t let what you may think keep you from verifying.
