5 Ways To Make Your Kids Screen Time Productive

The American Academy of Pediatrics prescribes that children between the ages of 2 and 5 years have a maximum of 1-2 hours of screen time per day. But this recommendation is often hard to follow in a world full of digital distractions for kids. However, it doesn’t mean that your child shouldn’t be exposed to technology at all. With the help of iPads (touch screen tablets), steam platforms, and educational apps, kids can learn skills like reading, writing, maths, science, or geography and enhance their creativity.

So, how do you make assure that your child does not waste time during their screen time? Here are several tips to manage your child’s screen time and make it productive.

USE IT AS A TOOL:

1. Use Educational Apps

Multiple educational apps are available for free or at an affordable price these days. They can help children learn new things in a fun way while staying active. For example, XXX is a popular online learning program for early-level learners that offers a paid subscription service for $7.95/month. Your child can learn about numbers and letters, math, science, or even art with this kind of platform and mouse!

Check out more web pages to find more educational apps. Just make sure that you check whether an app is age-appropriate before allowing your child to use it.

2- Plan Screen Time every day

Plan screen time with your child, including the duration and the apps they can use. For example, if you have a tablet at home, let them play educational apps for 30 minutes every day after school.  American Academy of Pediatrics suggested, children below 18 years have less than 2 hours of screen time each day, so try to enforce this rule with your kids.

3. Play Multiplayer Games With Your Child

Multiplayer games have always been a popular choice of entertainment. But did you know that multiplayer games can be educational too? For example, Spelling City allows your child to learn new spelling words by playing educational games with their friends from all over the world.

4. Set Up A Tablet For Your Child To Draw On

Most children love to paint and color, but you can also let them express themselves without letting them go wild on the wall or furniture. Some apps allow children to draw art with their fingers by adding multiple colors, choosing different brush sizes, etc. Some popular drawing apps are Sketchbook, Paint Joy, and many other creative apps that are suitable for your child’s productivity.

5. Make Your Special Time More Fun By Playing Games Together

If you’re looking for a track to spend more time with your child, playing games is a perfect way to bond! There are multiple productive games for parents and children to play together. Such as Puzzel games or word search games. This will also help your child in brainstorming besides fun.

PAY ATTENTION TO HOW YOUR KIDS ACT

Parents often fail to realize that even though they might set screen limits, kids can end up paying more than their allowed time. If this appears, pay heed to your child’s acts during the day and night. If you notice that your kid seems tired or sleepy during the day or has struggle falling asleep at midnight, it sways be due to over-exposure to screens. Check over your child habits:

  • -Make sure they go outside at least one hour every day.
  • -Limit their time on devices to 30 minutes per day or less than 2 hours per week.
  • -Make sure your child gets 8 – 10 hours of sleep every night.
  • -Keep TVs, computers, and other devices out of children’s bedrooms.
  • -If you notice changes in your child’s behavior, speak to your pediatrician about it.

Lastly,

This was brief on how you can turn your child’s screen time into something that can benefit them positively. The instructions discuss above are just the tip of the iceberg, and you will find many more educational apps and games out there if you look for them! Just make sure to do your research before allowing your child to use an app or play a game. I hope you found this article productive. Happy parenting!
